BALLET IN COLOR
ABOUT
Ballet in Color is a Portland-based nonprofit organization. Our mission is to inspire African American girls to pursue ballet through introductory ballet lessons and mentorship. We provide a mentor and one-on-one ballet classes to African American girls ages 5-12. These classes will not only promote physical strength and agility but also develop self-confidence, self-expression, and love for movement. We believe that no matter your background, socioeconomic status, or the color of your skin, everyone should have the opportunity to experience the beauty of ballet.

OUR STORY
Ballet in Color was founded by Kyra Bonta in March 2020. Kyra is currently a high school senior and has been dancing since she was 4 years old. She has trained with various ballet schools in Portland, Oregon and has attended ballet summer intensives by renowned companies including the American Ballet Theatre and the San Francisco Ballet. In all of her years of ballet training, she has never had an African American ballet teacher or mentor. This lack of black representation and racial diversity in the ballet community led her to found Ballet In Color to mentor and encourage young black ballerinas in the Portland Area.
